Your First Visit

what-to-expect-your-first-visit2

If this is your first experience with physical therapy, you may have a few questions.

When to Arrive

Please plan on arriving 15 minutes before your first appointment to ensure that all your questions and paperwork are finished before your appointment time.

What to Bring

For the purposes of insurance billing, please bring the following with you to your first appointment:

  • Your driver’s license
  • Initial patient paperwork – filled out
  • Referrals or prescriptions from your Physician
  • Your insurance card or insurance paperwork
What to Wear

Please wear or bring comfortable clothing, such as exercise pants, T-shirt and sneakers. We can provide shorts, shirts and gowns should it be necessary.

What to Expect at My Initial Evaluation

Your visit will last one hour and will involve a 1:1 conversation with your physical therapist listening to your concerns and goals. After examining your joint mobility, muscle performance and your functional level, a customized treatment program will be designed with your goals in mind. Your therapist will answer all of your questions and educate you as to what your impairment findings are, as well as the do’s and don’ts related to your condition. If time allows, a short trial treatment will be performed, which may include some initial home exercises.
